Our Story

HebHomes excitedly looks forward to its next chapter of growth as it rolls out partnerships in the US, starting in the Pacific North West.    

HebHomes US is originally from Scotland that has taken its passion for our architectural heritage and great design to create unique modern living spaces at affordable prices for customers throughout the world. With hundreds of houses already built in the UK and many more in the pipeline we are a company with an established track record. 

At the root of HebHomes is the awarding winning architectural design firm Dualchas, founded by twin brothers Neil and Alasdair Stephen.  The simple idea was to design the best looking, most efficient and affordable kit homes fit for all so we launched Hebhomes offering the best Dualchas design as off-the-peg kit homes. 

Our designs have won awards and are recognized as having influenced and greatly improved the quality of buildings in rural Scotland and beyond: designs from both Dualchas and HebHomes have been showcased at the V&A design museum in Dundee. Interest in our designs is now global with our first house now under construction in the United States.

Although labeled as a "kit home" we truly see our homes as your future dream home.  Our years of experience in design and build mean that we are able to eliminate many of the pitfalls of making your dream house come true.

Our process provides you with all the information, guidance and expertise to help you select and build a home that meets all your requirements. 

We always respond to what our customers needs.  While Hebhomes provide over 30 standard designs to choose from, our architects can amend and tweak your chosen design to meet the demands of your site. 

Certainty of Price

A HebHome provides you with an award winning designer kit, suited to fit your land, reducing uncertainty with overall costs, construction schedule and lead times that typically come with conventional home construction.

Building on our years of experience, we try to remove as many of the unknowns as possible.  Price clarity is at the core of our approach and runs throughout every project.  This starts with this web site which provides indicative prices for your home.  It also helps identify all the costs involved in building a home that you need to consider, such as site purchase and preparation.

Once you have selected your HebHome, we will provide you with a price once the kit has been designed and finalized to suit your needs and those of your land.  Please note that there can be changes in the prices of the supply and erection of your home depending on the market, such as particular challenges in delivery or special equipment needed for your site.  In these circumstances we will be transparent and inform you immediately and explain how this impacts your home while providing you with any revised costs.  

Sustainable and Environmentally Sympathetic

Our landscapes are precious. We have a responsibility to enhance our countryside, not despoil it: we want our houses to look like they belong. And we must do this while protecting our environment.

We believe that we can achieve this by taking inspiration from the simple, narrow designs and careful proportions of traditional northern European rural architecture.  This means the designs have a connection to the past, yet are contemporary. And they are highly energy efficient, use environmentally sustainable materials as well as being beautiful homes.

Our Team

Led by Alasdair Stephen, a RIAS architect educated at Strathclyde University, Scotland,  HebHomes has an outstanding track record of innovative design and business excellence.

As well as our highly-qualified staff we directly with architects, engineers and builders who understand our products and share both our ethos and deep commitment to our customers.

We are pleased to introduce our houses to the Pacific North West, where we are working with highly skilled partners to deliver the quality HebHomes product to our customers. Kits can be delivered througout the US. 

Alasdair Stephen RIAS –  Founder

After graduating from Strathclyde University with an honours degree in architecture, Alasdair continued his education at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the Gaelic college on the Isle of Skye. It was during this course in business studies and communications that he set up Dualchas Architects with his twin brother Neil.

Subsequently Alasdair founded HebHomes with his brother Neil and has led HebHomes since 2010, growing the company with help from his talented and dedicated team of staff.

With the formation of HebHomes US Inc in 2020 he is taking the company into a new era, meeting the needs of our US customers.

Neil Stephen RIAS - Founder

Neil Stephen was educated at Glasgow School of Art and the Mackintosh School of Architecture. After graduating, he travelled to Hong Kong where he spent several months working on major commercial projects for Tom Yip Architects.  His fifth year dissertation examined the architectural and political problems of housing in the Highlands, and led to his setting up Dualchas Building Design with his brother – later renamed Dualchas Architects – which set out to transform the design quality of domestic Highland architecture.

He was lead architect on a house project at Boreraig which won an RIAS award and was widely published internationally. As a founder and director of HebHomes he has helped lead the way in bringing affordable quality design to the wider public.

Craig Stephen - Director

Craig has over two decades experience in finance  as an investment analyst, corporate advisor and investor.  He began his career working for Cresvale Securities in Hong Kong and is currently Investment Director of MediaCap, an Australian media-for-equity fund.

Craig is the brother of Neil and Alasdair and brings his wealth of knowledge working with growth companies to advise on international business expansion, funding and strategy.  He has an economics degree with honours from the University of Strathclyde and joined the board of HebHomes in 2019.

John C Koppe AIA - Architect 

John has over 40 years experience in architecture, construction and construction management.  Throughout his career he has led and delivered a full range of residential projects throughout Washington State.  These range from multi-family designs, affordable housing and high end custom designs.

He is a founding member of Architects Without Borders Seattle and a Passive House Certified and Sustainable Building Advisor Certified.

John works closely with our Pacific North West clients to select and refine their dream house.  He can also assist with any certification and approvals required.

Matthew Ambrey - Project Delivery Manager 

Matt is a skilled contractor with experience managing a diverse set of projects around the world. He is also an avid student of sustainable, high performance construction and is an active volunteer at Construction for Change, a local NGO focused on building health and educational infrastructure across the developing world.

Joe Dolan - HebHomes Ambassador

Joe has nearly two decades of experience in architecture, construction and construction management.  Throughout his career he has led and delivered a full range of architectural projects throughout the entire country.  Ranging from multi-family, high end custom residential hotel/resort developments, as well as commercial design work.

As a HebHome ambassador for the US market, Joe works closely with our Midwest clients to select and refine their dream house and is even currently planning his very own HebHome for his family.

Joe St Germain - Treasurer

Joe is a financial professional with over 20 years experience in finance and accounting.  He has spent a number of years in accounting and finance roles for start ups and emerging growth companies, building and managing corporate infrastructure to support business needs.  More recently, he has leveraged those experiences to lead his own firm to provide finance services to growth companies.  Joe has earned his Masters of Business Administration from Northeastern University in Boston.  Joe is providing a range of financial and corporate supports.

Merrill Park - Business Development Associate

Merrill graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2005 and worked for several years as a commercial interior designer and contract administrator on large scale projects in Glasgow and London before moving into design sales and marketing.

Merrill joined HebHomes in 2016, bringing her knowledge of design and sales to coordinate new project enquiries as well as providing contractual administrative support to the architectural team.
